It's not really the apps, it's the same application but on different
machines. So it seems I need two 'app-specific' passwords for the same
application, purely because I use the same application on multiple
machines. That starts eating into their '25 app' limit quite quickly,
particularly since I use VMs as well.

Yes, read that one. It never mentions multiple machines, which is a bit
odd for something with 'cloud' in the name and that's meant to keep
things in sync.

These apps already had app specific passwords eg my email client Spark and Fantastical, my calendar app but they were no longer in my list at the Apple my ID site.
